Understanding driving dynamics – from the test bench to the track

How can vehicle dynamics be understood not just in isolation but as an integrated system – and under real-world driving conditions? A joint project with the Formula Student team at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences is dedicated to addressing precisely this question. What systems are needed: optical sensor – slip angle, velocity; HMS – camber/pitch and roll; WVS – X, Y, Z position, steering, camber, toe; WFT – force, torque. Only by linking these systems can a complete picture emerge: from tire interaction through vehicle motion to the resulting elastokinematics.
