Reimagining Software Testing for Software-Defined Vehicles
Synopsys

As vehicles evolve into complex, software-defined systems, traditional testing methods are no longer sufficient. Testing isolated ECUs fails to capture the intricacies of real-world integration, where late-stage issues can derail development. Synopsys is driving a modern approach which demands early, continuous validation with scalable, cloud-ready simulation platforms.
Virtual prototyping, powered by tools like Synopsys Virtualizer™ and Silver™, offers a robust foundation. These tools enable seamless build and integration of virtual ECUs across abstraction levels, supporting synchronized, multi-host simulations. With Saber™ power electronics modelling, combined with TPT™, a model-based testing solution, teams can automate regression maintenance, generate edge-case scenarios, and reuse test cases across development stages—dramatically reducing effort and increasing coverage.

The recent introduction of Virtualizer Native Execution (VNE™) for ARM64 architectures further accelerates simulation performance. By eliminating the need for instruction set simulation, boot times for complex systems like Android Automotive can shrink from 20 minutes to just 20 seconds.

With support for industry standards and integration into CI/CD workflows, these technologies empower developers to manage test complexity, ensure traceability, and deliver high-quality automotive software, faster and more efficiently.
